I could say that my art is the product of an enduring relationship with my environment, a journey of exploration through the myriad of images which bombard us everyday, a creative synthesis designed to open the viewer’s eye to the endless permutations of colour, shape and mood to be found in the cornucopia of visual inspiration available in the North East of Scotland.  On the other hand I could say that I just like painting and it beats the hell out of working for a living!  The truth probably lies somewhere between.

When the Japanese artist Hokusai finished creating his “One Hundred Views of Mount Fuji”,  I’m sure he felt like bulldozing his subject flat so that he would never be tempted to draw it again.  This particular collection is a response to my being ”Bennachie’d out” in the same way over the last few years.

Three of the works were based on West Coast sunsets.  All the rest are responses to the changing aspects of a one hundred yard stretch of beach at Balmedie in the first hour after sunrise.

I hope you enjoy them.
